Mr Franscois Runau is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester. His practice focuses on bowel cancer, early rectal cancers, inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal wall reconstruction, and hernia surgery. He is experienced in advanced laparoscopic techniques, including Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS).
In addition to major colorectal and hernia surgery, he treats haemorrhoids, fistulas-in-ano, anal fissures, pilonidal sinuses, and anal skin tags with minimally invasive and laser-based options. He also performs diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.
Mr Runau studied medicine at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School and completed higher surgical and colorectal training in Leicester, with visiting fellowships to regional and European centres. He was awarded a PhD in cancer treatment from the University of Leicester in 2019 and continues to publish in colorectal surgery.
