Advice on discharge after a bowel operation

Having a bowel operation is a significant event and whilst one is in hospital, the security of the hospital and the knowledge that the staff have all the skills to look after you is reassuring. However, going home after surgery however must be daunting for all patients, with concerns about what to expect and what to do and who to contact in case of any problems. Questions about what foods to eat and how much pain to expect and when to resume normal physical activity arise in every patient’s mind.

This simple video is a short 5 minute presentation that was put together years ago whilst working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and was funded by a grant from Coloplast UK. We would recommend all patients and family members/ carers of patients undergoing a bowel operation to have a look at it.
